This is a great light for several reasons. I keep one in all the cars with a cr123 in them for emergency needs. They just work when you need them. Nice and small, also carry one on me or in my briefcase.

Even better is that it runs on 14500 batteries. Now you do lose the low brightness when using rechargeables, it’s more like bright and slightly less bright.

Strobe still works fine. But it is brighter than using cr123s for sure. I’ve done some pretty extensive testing with this and have run into no reliability issues yet.
So you can run off 1AA, 1AAA, Cr123, Rcr123a, and 14500. In my testing a 800Mah 14500 will run bright for about an hour.
Then it will diminish from about 280 lumens to about 50 lumens (as unscientificly measured against other flashlights of known lumen output) over the next 30 minutes.
I stop testing at 1.5 hours, but expect it would just continue to dim and probably give you another 15-30 minutes of useable light. The light gets just as warm as it does with a Cr123 and then cools as the lumens decrease.
The best part is that as compared to my Streamlight 2L-X it has slightly better throw. The 2L-X most likely still puts out more lumens, but it is hard to tell in the dark.
They look nearly identical. This light just throws slightly farther and still has great spill. This light is nice and small and the clip is perfect for a hat brim or a pocket.
The emitter is a bit more neutral white, but still a cooler color. Certainly not as yellow as a zebra headlamp in neutral. It is a nice bright neutralish cool white.
I suspect streamlight doesn’t advertise the battery capability because they want to keep selling their Cr123 batteries. That or what I’m doing will kill the emitter quicker.
Maybe both. Regardless, I have a bunch of these little lights as they have become my favorite. Stash them with Cr123s for emergencies, EDC/ use with a 14500 and carry a Cr123 as a back up.
I’ve had luck with this but don’t recommend it since you “could” fry your light. Hasnt happened to me yet. But just to be safe….
